Born Brian Todd Antonio Sean Boucher in Spanish Town, Jamaica, Ras Ajai is a rising force in reggae and dancehall — an artist who found his voice in the church choir and forged it into an internationally resonant "reggae soul" sound.
Raised in a Christian household in Waterford, Portmore, St. Catherine, he taught himself keyboard, drums, and bass guitar. After graduating from Waterford High School and working as an accountant with the Ministry of National Security, inspiration struck through the music of Peter Tosh and Buju Banton. Under the mentorship of legendary saxophonist Dean Fraser, he developed a signature sound that blends reggae, dancehall, and soul.
Ras Ajai debuted in 2008 with Black Naturally, later releasing standout tracks like Pack Up Yuh Tings with Izrel, Di Ras Hot and Buss a Bubble featuring Sean Paul. His catalogue covers themes of resilience, perseverance, and love — from Don't Change and Protect Me Jah Jah to Success.
In 2018, joining Sean Paul's Dutty Rock Productions marked a career turning point. His 2024 acting debut in Paramount Pictures' Bob Marley: One Love — portraying Claudius Massop, a pivotal figure in Jamaica's musical and political history — earned him significant media attention. He completed a U.S. tour with Sean Paul in 2024 and continues releasing new music, including There for Me, Can't Deny, and Justice.
Paramount Pictures Biopic
Ras Ajai made his acting debut portraying Claudius Massop — a prominent and pivotal figure in Jamaica's musical and political history. Massop was the leader of the Phoenix Gang (later renamed the Shower Posse), based in Tivoli Gardens and the surrounding areas of West Kingston, Jamaica.
His commitment to the role, which included cutting his locks, earned him widespread media coverage and bolstered his career across both entertainment industries. The role required deep research into one of Jamaica's most complex historical figures.
Pulling together earlier releases into one focused statement, The Recap Album acts as a bridge between where Ras Ajai has been and where he's heading — with a debut studio album slated for 2026. Reviewed by Reggae Vibes as "focused and confident," the set spans soulful reggae, lovers rock, roots conscious cuts and herb anthems.
